CIPHER NOIR: ORIGIN

While attending art school the artist experimented with avant-garde electro-industrial music, surrealist methodologies, and multimedia art. These early productions were developed with the intent to stimulate deep intellectual thought – often expressed through shock value and transgressive messages that speak out against cyclic social injustice.

Preliminary variants of Cipher Noir music emerged from this formative time period, drawing inspiration from: Orwellian dystopian themes, dark psychology, and tech-noir film. Amid his artistic and intellectual explorations, various multimedia experiments were crafted as ‘process papers’ for the college course Surrealism and Rebellion. These vividly passionate efforts resulted in a unique post-industrial soundscape, paired with a punk-infused statement on the degradation of society and technological enslavement.

In the fall of 2006 the artist presented his debut gallery exhibit, featuring various mixed media artworks, accompanied by the ambient-industrial soundscape “Interdimensional”. The track later appeared as a cassette single paired with the B-side “Death Horizon” (described as having vintage darkwave vibes, crushing EBM basslines, and icy synth pads). The overall audio experience was said to be inspired by surrealist methodologies, transcommunication, and quantum entanglement.

In the years that followed the artist worked relentlessly to refine his craft. Topics of inquiry included: hardware synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, audio effects units, digital audio workstations, and semi-modular systems. This persistent quest for knowledge would unlock countless transformative breakthroughs, culminating in a fully-realized manifestation of the Cipher Noir sound.

2024 saw the release of “Psychotronic” in digital and streaming formats via Bandcamp, accompanied by a cassette-single (inspired by DIY punk cassette culture). Two additional singles “Veil of Coercion” and “Telekinetic Void” were released shortly thereafter in early 2025.
